Louisiana Woman Booked on 39 Counts of Theft, Insurance Fraud

Louisiana State Troopers working in the Insurance Fraud Unit have arrested a Baton Rouge woman after a nearly five-month investigation into her alleged fraudulent activities while working as an office manager of Advance Chiropractic in Baton Rouge.

Troopers began the investigation after receiving a complaint from the Office of Disciplinary Council in February.

The complaint centered on suspected criminal activity between Attorney Kevin L. Hanchey and Juanita S. Boyd of Baton Rouge. Hanchey is a personal injury attorney in Baton Rouge who routinely sent clients to see Dr. Doyle Johnson at Advance Chiropractic for treatment. Boyd was Dr. Johnson’s employee at Advance Chiropractic.

LSP’s investigation revealed that 39 checks had been written from Hanchey directly to Juanita Boyd from 2007 to 2009, totaling more than $77,000. These checks coincide with insurance settlements between Hanchey and numerous insurance companies for his clients.

The clients were listed in the description portion of the check and received treatment at Advance Chiropractic for injuries. It appeared Boyd then cashed the checks at Hanchey’s bank soon after and never reported the payments to Advance Chiropractic.

The LSP concluded that Boyd cashed and kept 39 checks worth $77,135.21, which was payment for care received at Advance Chiropractic. Boyd is alleged to have stolen money that was due to Dr. Johnson for medical services he provided.
