Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger has named Zachary J.C. Anshutz as assistant commissioner and John Wine as general counsel.
Anshutz has been the Kansas Insurance Department’s (KID’s) general counsel since January 2011. He was assistant general counsel for two years and a department staff attorney for two years. He is a Washburn University School of Law graduate.
“I am pleased that Zac has accepted a new department role,” Commissioner Praeger said. “He has demonstrated time and again his willingness to take on any task to further the mission of our department. His experience will be extremely valuable as he works with administrative and consumer issues.”
Anshutz replaces Bob Tomlinson, who became director of the Kansas Office of Administrative Hearings. In addition to his new duties, Anshutz will continue to be the department’s human resources director.
Wine has been in the department’s legal division since 2007. He previously served the state as general counsel in the Secretary of State’s office, the Kansas Securities Commissioner and as chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission. He is a graduate of Friends University and the University of Kansas School of Law.
“John’s extensive experience in state government will be a tremendous asset in his role as KID general counsel,” Commissioner Praeger said. “He can interact well with many people to continue fulfilling the department’s responsibilities to Kansas consumers.”
