Family of Nebraska Man Killed in Crash Sues Company

The parents of a Bellevue man who was killed when his bicycle was struck by a gas truck have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against a fuel supplier.

The filing in Douglas County District Court says Nebraska-Iowa Supply Company Inc. in Blair and its driver are to blame for the Sept. 3 crash that killed 26-year-old Samuel Rice. The lawsuit says the driver was negligent for failing to stop before hitting Rice, to yield the right of way and to drive at a reasonable speed for conditions, among other things.

The filing seeks unspecified monetary compensation.

The lawsuit was filed Nov. 18 and was first reported by the Omaha World-Herald.

A message left Saturday for Nebraska-Iowa Supply Company wasn’t immediately returned.
