Former Charlestown parks and recreation director Lisa DiBello has announced plans to sue the town over her firing last year.
DiBello, who filed a discrimination claim with the Commission for Human Rights in March, alleges that her termination was retaliation for her role in a sexual harassment investigation at Town Hall in 2006.
The town has denied the allegations.
Her attorney, Robert Savage, tells the Westerly Sun that he plans to ask the human rights commission for the right to sue the town in state, rather than federal court. He says that’s because there are no limits to the damages that a judge can award under the state’s Fair Employment Practices Act.
