Maine Fireboat Crash Preventable, Fire Chief Reports

Portland, Maine Fire Chief Fred LaMontagne says an accident involving the city’s new fireboat last month was preventable and will prompt discipline of those involved.

LaMontagne released the results of an investigation into the accident in which the fireboat became grounded on a submerged ledge, causing $90,000 worth of damage.

The City of Portland IV ran aground Nov. 7 during one of its first missions. The crew was headed back to the city for more equipment after dropping off firefighters on Jewell Island, where a man had fallen into the water.

LaMontagne told the Portland Press Herald that the discipline measures will be confidential until finalized.
