Dust from a steel mill in Claymont, Delaware may be a health hazard according to a new study.
About 75 people gathered Saturday at Claymont Elementary School to hear the findings of the study, which used dust samples collected by residents to measure levels of lead and manganese.
Global Community Monitor, a San Francisco environmental nonprofit that helps communities monitor neighborhoods, is monitoring air pollution in the area as part of a yearlong project.
Claymont Steel general manager Victor Parker attended Saturday’s public hearing, and said the company will host a public meeting after the first of the year to review the report. Parker said the company also will explain the steel mill’s manufacturing process and its compliance with environmental regulations.
