Officials say a man was electrocuted and another badly shocked during a construction accident at an Orange County, Calif., high school.

County Fire Authority officials said Thursday that a construction crew was working on Mission Viejo High School’s athletic field when one of the workers was electrocuted.

Officials say a second worker attempted to help the first and climbed onto the scaffolding they were building to hang a banner. Authorities say he received an electrical shock and was thrown 30 feet onto the ground.

Both workers were taken to Mission Hospital.

Authorities say the first worker was in his early 20s and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials say the second is also in his early 20s and is in serious condition.

The names of the victims were withheld.
