Dwight Lovan, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims, was elected president of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) during the IAIABC’s Centennial Convention held in Austin, Texas.
The IAIABC represents jurisdictions from around the world with the goal of advancing the efficiency and effectiveness of workers’ compensation systems.
Lovan was appointed to serve as commissioner of the Department of Workers’ Claims in 2008 by Governor Steve Beshear. As commissioner, he has responsibility for the administration of the Kentucky workers’ compensation program and system and provides policy advice to the Governor and Legislature on workers’ compensation matters.
Prior to his appointment, he served as member of the Kentucky Workers’ Compensation Board and as an Administrative Law Judge.
Commissioner Lovan received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
In addition to his celebrated career in Kentucky, Commissioner Lovan has been engaged in many regional and national organizations, including serving as president of the Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrators (SAWCA) and being elected to the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers (CWCL). Most recently he was named as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Workers’ Compensation by the National Workers’ Compensation & Occupational Medicine Conference.
