Berlin police say a man suspected of brazenly tunneling into a city bank’s safety deposit room used a fake Netherlands identity card to rent an underground parking spot nearby.
Authorities released a photo Tuesday of the man, appearing to be in his 20s with short brown hair and glasses. The garage operator said he spoke German with a foreign accent, and was about 1.75-meters to 1.85 meters (6 feet) tall.
Police last week released a sketch of a suspected accomplice – a stocky man in his 30s = also suspected of digging the 45-meter (150-foot) tunnel into the bank and getting away with an undisclosed haul Jan. 13.
Police are also trying to determine where they got 1,000 wooden corner supports to hold up beams in the meticulously built tunnel.
