National Weather Service Confirms New Jersey Tornado

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in northern New Jersey during the height of Monday’s severe storms.

Meteorologists say the relatively weak EF-1 tornado hit Paramus in central Bergen County shortly before 3:20 p.m.

The weather service says it cut a path of about 100 yards wide and 1.25 miles long.

Wind gusts reached about 100 mph.

Meteorologists say a number of trees snapped or were uprooted.

No injuries were reported.

Monday’s stormy weather also knocked out power to about 10,000 homes and businesses around the state.
