Former U.S. Federal Reserve Insurance Counsel Frank Alerte Joins Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 5/31/13 – Frank Alerte, a former executive insurance counsel at the U.S. Federal Reserve, Guy Carpenter and BB&T, has joined the law and governmental consulting firm of Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb as an Insurance Consultant in its Insurance Regulatory Division.

Licensed to practice law in New York, Mr. Alerte will provide the Firm’s clients with insurance consulting and insight on Florida’s complex insurance regulatory environment.

With more than 25 years of legal experience in insurance and reinsurance regulatory law, litigation, corporate matters, risk management and claims advocacy services, Mr. Alerte is experienced in obtaining licenses for insurance companies, agents and producers, and has defended brokers in administrative actions and audits initiated by insurance departments.

Most recently, Mr. Alerte held the position of Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of BB&T’s Legal Department, for which he provided legal support for the bank’s property and casualty wholesale operations. In this role, he was responsible for all legal matters confronting those operations, and managed all errors and omissions claims, and contractual issues.

While at Guy Carpenter, an international reinsurance broker, Mr. Alerte headed its Contract Department, where he was responsible for drafting insurance policies, reinsurance contracts, placement slips and managing general agency agreements and best practices compliance and operating manuals for insurance brokers. He also has conducted due diligence for insurance-related mergers and acquisitions, and reviewed insurance products for regulatory compliance.

For the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, he handled a broad array of insurance supervisory-related issues and provided legal advice on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Mr. Alerte is experienced in managing complex litigation and arbitration proceedings covering such issues as insolvency and liquidation, attorney-client privilege and enforceability of non-solicit and non-compete restrictions.

He is admitted to practice in the Southern and Eastern New York Federal District Courts.

Mr. Alerte represents clients and companies at key industry functions such as meetings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, Surplus Lines Law Group, and the Brokers and Reinsurance Markets Association. He recently chaired the Legal Counsels’ Committee of the CIAB.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Harvard University and earned his Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law.
