Still time to register for Private Sector Summit on Florida property insurance market

July 26, 2007

Property insurers in Florida are facing a crisis as they try to deal with the impact of drastic changes imposed on them with the recent enactment of the property insurance law (HB 1A) that contains new mandates.

How to respond to and manage those mandates will be the focus of the Florida Private Sector Summit on Property Insurance, hosted by Demotech Inc. and Insurance Journal.

The Summit, which is open by invitation to senior executives at companies writing homeowners and property insurance in Florida, will be held Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando.

“As a company that provides Financial Stability Ratings for insurers in Florida, we have witnessed the impact these changes have had on companies and the confusion that has resulted,” said Joseph L. Petrelli, president and founder of Demotech.

“The Private Sector Summit will bring together a remarkable group of industry experts to provide meaningful analysis of the legislation and an analysis of underlying issues as companies struggle to evaluate their options in Florida.”

The Summit will feature a review of the legal perspectives on HB 1A, its impact on insurance companies that only recently accepted the challenge of writing insurance in the state, a look at the reinsurance market and insight into the business of catastrophe modeling.

The Summit panelists include: Joseph L. Petrelli, Demotech Inc.; Andrew Simpson, Insurance Journal; Edward A. Matto, Mueller, Smith and Matto LLP; Thomas J. Maida, Foley & Lardner LLP; Leonard E. Schulte, Foley & Lardner LLP; Susan K. Straker, Coral Insurance; Jeffrey W. Grady, Florida Association of Independent Agents; Paul B. Dzielinski, U.S. RE Corp.; Roger Morris, Morris and Assoc.; and faculty provided by the Florida Insurance Council and Benfield Inc.

The cost of the Private Sector Summit on Property Insurance is $375 per person, with discounts available for multiple attendees from the same company. Attendance will be limited. Registration material is available by contacting Emily Hunt at 800-354-7207, or e-mail ehunt@demotech.com.
