Aid Available for Arizona County Damaged by Hurricane Odile Flooding

November 17, 2014

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has declared a state of emergency in response to record flooding in Cochise County two months ago.

Powerful rains combined with the remnants of Hurricane Odile resulted in up to 6 inches of rain falling in the county between Sept. 17 and 19.

The storm caused more than $1 million damage to public infrastructure and also damaged homes and left some citizens stranded in floodwaters before they were rescued.

The state of emergency declaration can be used to reimburse eligible emergency response and recovery costs.

The funds cannot be used to reimburse home or business owners for flood damages.

Brewer’s office says the declaration makes $200,000 from the General Fund available to the Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.
