Colorado Internet Facility Total Loss After Fire

November 11, 2014

Peak Internet customers in southern Colorado have been notified that a major service facility at an undisclosed location has been destroyed by a fire, and the company is urging customers not to download movies or large files.

The company said a fire early Sunday destroyed a facility that serves customers in Woodland Park and Colorado Springs. There was no estimate on how many customers are affected.

In a statement, the company said it is doing all it can to restore service.

“While most of our network facilities have redundant backup paths, losing one of our primary sites may cause those backup paths to become overloaded and therefore will result in reduced network performance across the majority of our network. All of our network and engineering staff has been called in and will work to rebuild our primary links soon. Vendors have been contacted and will be en route with replacement equipment shortly,” the company said.

The fire broke out around 1:40 a.m. and was still burning hours later. The network facility is a total loss, KKTV-TV reported Sunday.

The company said it plans to have full-speed service restored for all customers in a couple of days.

In the meantime, service to customers who still have Internet service may find it slowing down.
