No Insurance Coverage for Idaho Homeowners After Sewers Back Up

September 5, 2014

The insurance company for the south-central Idaho city of Twin Falls says it won’t pay reimbursement costs sought by residents whose homes sustained damage when the city sewers backed up last month.

The Idaho Counties Risk Management Program sent letters several weeks ago to 11 residents saying the damage was due to heavy rains and not negligence by the city.

The Times-News reports that the letters state that the 4 inches of rain that fell on Aug. 6 is considered an act of nature.

The residents aren’t covered by homeowners insurance because the damage wasn’t caused by a break in the homeowners’ lines, but a backup in the city line.
