Las Vegas Police Receive Donated Crowbars to Assist Trapped Victims

July 24, 2014

Las Vegas, Nev., police have a new tool that could save fire victims trapped behind security bars on doors and windows.

Home improvement store Lowe’s and other community partners affiliated with the Safe Village Coalition donated 100 crowbars to police in Las Vegas’ Bolden Area Command on Monday.

The donation aims to prevent tragedies like the one that happened in Las Vegas on Sept. 27, 2012, when police were unable to remove bars that trapped an 11-year-old boy in a burning home.security bars on window

The boy and his father both died.

Police now have enough crowbars to equip each squad and undercover team in the Bolden Command unit, which sometimes arrives at emergency scenes before better-equipped firefighters.
