The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) announced that Olympic Gold Medallist Kristi Yamaguchi will be the keynote speaker at the organization’s 21st annual Western Division benefit dinner being held Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco.

Yamaguchi will present before hundreds of insurance professionals in a celebration of the industry’s commitment to community and philanthropic tradition.

“We are delighted to have such a respected philanthropist and role model as Ms. Kristi Yamaguchi join us for a celebration of the charitable tradition of the IICF and the accomplishments of the entire insurance industry,” said Melissa Duncan, IICF Western Division executive director. “This event marks 21 years of the IICF’s philanthropic work in grants, volunteer service and leadership, which are all a part of the effort to make a positive and profound impact for the communities in which we live and work.”

At the dinner, nonprofit Rebuilding Together Peninsula will be honored for its work to rebuild communities and preserve affordable housing for the region’s most vulnerable citizens. For 25 years, Rebuilding Together Peninsula has provided repair and renovations for seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities, and families with children living in the San Francisco Peninsula.

Additionally, the IICF will also recognize the Heffernan Foundation with the Golden Horizon Award for outstanding dedication to social responsibility through employee philanthropy, volunteerism, and education. Based in Walnut Creek, Calif., the Heffernan Foundation serves nonprofits that provide direct support and services to local communities in the areas of shelter, food, education and the preservation of the environment.

The IICF Western Division annual benefit dinner provides an opportunity for professionals from across the industry to come together in a united philanthropic effort, raising vital funds for local nonprofits. Proceeds from the evening will benefit local nonprofits through the Foundation’s community grants program. To date, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $21 million in grants and 179,000 volunteer service hours to hundreds of community organizations across the country.
