I am not familiar with this incident. Did the officer disarm and arrest John Laigaie III at the time of the confrontation/misunderstanding in the park?
The $15K settlement: did it cover all Mr. Laigale’s legal expenses and/or emotional distress, etc.?
Did it require disciplinary time off/training of the unnamed officer and all other Bellingham police officers re: state preemption laws?
I’m all for the 2nd Ammendment (within reason) and all, but why isn’t it illegal to cary a gun in a Washington park?…or anywhere in public where guns aren’t neessary?
Anyone that states they are for the Second Amendment and then asks why its not illegal to carry a gun where they are not necessary really confuses me. Do you think criminals read and a sign and say, oh I cannot rob this person or shoot them because the sign says I cannot bring my gun. Really! The bottom line is bad people do bad things. It does not matter if its a knife or a baseball bat or a gun. Prohibiting law abiding citizen”s from arming themselves only helps the bad guys. If you were going to break into someones house and you saw a NRA sticker and a Greenpeace sticker on different houses, who’s house would you break into.
More the question, Why would it be illegal to carry a gun in a Washington park? Where, just where are weapons NOT neccessary. Don’t tell me that I should run away or pee on myself. I do not wear a gun to make a point. I wear a gun to protect myself and those in my charge. I am old, I am disabled, I will not be a victim.

Let’s all wear guns just to make a point!
Don’t we already have too many George Zimmermans?

Duh, the NRA house – you know they have some nice guns to steal… The best you could get from a Greenpeace house would be a hookah…

insurance is fun! says: Don’t we already have too many George Zimmermans?
Grow a brain. Zimmerman was on his back being beaten and threatened with death by a drug thug before he ever pulled his gun.
What we *still* have are too many Trayvon Martins.
