Former Utah Cop Headed to Jail for Insurance Fraud

April 19, 2013

A former Utah police officer has been sentenced to jail for defrauding his car insurance company.

Robert Iain Walker was sentenced last week to serve up to five years in prison but the sentence was suspended in lieu of a four-month jail term.

The 33-year-old Walker pleaded guilty in 7th District Court in February to making a false or fraudulent insurance claim, a third-degree felony.

Carbon County Attorney Gene Strate says Walker admitted to intentionally allowing his 2012 Dodge truck to roll down a steep hill and crash before he reported a false accident.

Walker worked for the Price Police Department for four years before his firing in September due to the fraud case.

In addition to jail, he gets three years’ probation and must pay $22,000 in restitution.
