Joint Forces in Nevada Team Up for DUI Enforcement

October 18, 2012

The Nevada Highway Patrol is teaming up with several other northern Nevada law enforcement agencies to include the Reno and Sparks Police Departments and the Lyon and Washoe County Sheriff’s Offices, for a “Joining Forces” DUI Enforcement and awareness event beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 9.

During the two-week time frame, agencies will be beefing up patrol in the Reno/Sparks area and the greater Carson City area, focusing efforts on identifying impaired drivers.

The event is funding by the Office of Traffic Safety and is one of many campaigns that are conducted throughout the year to help reduce accidents and fatalities in northern Nevada.

In 2011, the Nevada Highway Patrol arrested 3714 drivers for DUI statewide.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes – one every 51 minutes.
