Ten bucks – just don’t go to court.

“Several Republicans said the fines are punitively high”. Nah, $500 would be punitively high, not $10!

Right now its $180 for the first offense not $160. I was given a ticket in Roseville, Ca for using a cell phone while driving when I didn’t even have a phone on me. Its easier at the momment to just plead no contest and pay the fine rather than trying to fight it and end up paying even more once all the court fees are added on.
There is really no fighting against this so its a great money maker for the government. The court Judge made a point that it was more or less a scam but the law is the law.

I generally agree with very little that comes out of Sacramento. We are over regulated and over taxed. We are doing a great job of driving business and people out of the state. However, the cell phone laws are good. We don’t really need to increase the fines, if we would just enforce the current law we could probably balance the budget. There are way too many yahoos talking on their cell phones and not paying attention the world around them. They are responsible for many accdents and deaths. Come on law enforcement – do your job!
