Wyoming Capitol Dome Repairs Could Cost up to $1M

May 17, 2012

Officials estimate it will cost close to $1 million to repair the State Capitol dome in Cheyenne, Wyo.

The state would be responsible for about half that amount, with insurance covering the rest.

State deputy construction manager Phil Kinder says the dome has seen normal wear and tear through the years, but hailstorms last year left the dome in need of the fix.

He says a specialist roofing firm in Ontario, Canada, will handle the repairs, which will take about a year and a half.

Kinder said the Canadian company is one of the few that handles custom historical restorations of domes and similar buildings.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the project is separate from a proposed renovation of the State Capitol interior and infrastructure.
