Pedestrian Safety Under Discussion at Hawaii Community Meeting

Urban Honolulu officials will discuss hazardous intersections at a community meeting on Saturday.

Sen. Carol Fukunaga, Rep. Karl Rhoads and Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi will host the 9 a.m. meeting at Makiki Christian Church. They’ve invited city Department of Transportation Services Director Wayne Yoshioka to discuss plans for public safety in Makiki and the Ala Moana areas.

Some of the most hazardous streets in the city are in the district. There have been 12 crashes at the intersections at Kanunu and Kaheka and Piikoi and South Beretania streets, the lawmakers point out.

Rhoads and Fukunaga will also discuss the recently ended legislative session.

Fukunaga says legislators increased resources for neighborhood schools and worked to rebuild safety net programs for the community.
