Wyoming Department of Transportation is looking at lowering the nighttime speed limit on state highway in the Jackson Hole, Wyo., area.
Wyoming 390 has seen a rash of moose-vehicle collisions this past winter. Recent collisions have left five moose dead along the corridor west of Jackson.
WYDOT district engineer John Eddins tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that new signs lowering the nighttime speed limit from 45 mph to 35 on part of the road could be in place as early as next fall.
Eddins says the idea is to reduce collisions with moose although studies on whether lower speed limits reduce animal-vehicle collisions show mixed results.
Eddins also said he’s working with residents and county officials to study clearing brush from the side of the road.
