A federal lawsuit has been filed in Wyoming’s only documented death during last year’s listeria outbreak from contaminated cantaloupe from southern Colorado.
The Casper Star Tribune reports Jack Corsi’s family filed the lawsuit Thursday. The lawsuit claims the Alpine resident is the one known Wyoming fatality involving the Listeria-contaminated cantaloupe grown, distributed and sold by Jensen Farms Inc. of Holly, Colo. Corsi died in November.
Federal disease, food and drug officials say three others were sickened in the outbreak first noticed in early September.
The lawsuit claims negligence and seeks unspecified dollar amounts for damages.
Jensen Farm officials have repeatedly declined comment, citing pending litigation.
Federal health officials say the outbreak killed at least 30 people and sickened 146 others.
