California Fines 3 Los Angeles Nursing Homes $235,000

Three Los Angeles County nursing homes have been fined a total of $235,000 after state investigations found inadequate care resulted in a patient death.

State health chief Dr. Ron Chapman says the Downey Care Center was fined $80,000 for failing to monitor the blood sugar of a diabetic patient who went into a diabetic coma and died.

Fountain View Subacute and Nursing Center in Los Angeles was fined $75,000 for failure to monitor a patient with a history of falls, who suffered a fatal brain injury after falling down.

Motion Picture & Television Hospital in Woodland Hills was fined $80,000 for failing to supervise a dementia patient who fell down a flight of stairs and died seven days later.

The facilities have 10 days to contest the fine.
