Family Seeks $56M for San Diego Jet Crash

By JULIE WATSON | December 16, 2011

A family that lost four members when a military jet crashed into their San Diego home is seeking $56 million in compensation from the federal government.

Attorney Brian Panish said during closing arguments Wednesday that Don Yoon should receive $25 million for the loss of his wife and two baby daughters. His father-in-law would get $20 million for the loss of his wife and his oldest daughter.

The U.S. government has admitted responsibility for the 2008 crash. Justice Department attorneys estimate economic losses to be about $1 million. They have made no recommendation on how much should be awarded for loss of love and companionship.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller did not say when he would decide.
