Cause of Small Fire Outside Las Vegas Hotel Accidental

November 21, 2011

Las Vegas firefighters have classified a small fire on a scaffold outside the former Lady Luck Hotel as accidental.

No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $500 after the fire a little before 7 p.m. Thursday at the shuttered hotel tower on Third Street and Ogden Avenue.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that investigators determined that heat from an outdoor light ignited a piece of wood on the scaffold placed for a planned renovation.

The high-rise hotel closed in February 2006. Plans call for it to reopen next year with 634 rooms and a new name, the Downtown Grand.
