Police, Courts Weigh-in on Traffic Cams in Nogales, Arizona

Nogales police are awaiting approval for traffic enforcement cameras at key intersections.

Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham tells the Nogales International the cameras are needed because of overloaded trucks barreling through town.

More than 900 traffic infractions were recorded at eight intersections along Mariposa Road and North Grand Avenue.

A police spokesman says the department does not have the necessary personnel to constantly patrol the areas.

Meanwhile, Nogales City Court Judge Mayra Galindo and her staff will have the task of dealing with the implementation of photo radar.

Galindo says she plans to meet with representatives of the Chandler City Court. Chandler has been dealing with photo radar for more than eight years.

The judge says she wants to gain a glimpse of the inner workings and challenges her court could be facing.
