A lawsuit filed on behalf of the families of eight mentally disabled adults accuses a Southern California day care center and a county agency of failing to investigate abuse complaints.
The suit alleges that the center, now known as New Day, and Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services failed to look into complaints that adult children were coming home with bruises and scratches.
But New Day program director Kimberly Upchurch tells The Los Angeles Times that the facility can document that all responsible agencies were notified of concerns. The Associated Press left a message with Adult Protective Services.
The suit seeks unspecified monetary damages and compensation for medical expenses.
A former center employee was sentenced to eight years in prison in February after pleading guilty to raping a woman there.
