A Dec. 8 trial date has been set a 28-year-old fashion model from Hong Kong on three misdemeanor charges related to crashing a rented motor home into the city’s landmark arch.
Rosemary Vandenbroucke is accused of vehicular hit-and-run, failure to maintain insurance and improper right turn charges. Each charge carries up to one year in jail, but probation is more common except in cases of repeat offenders.
Vandenbrouke’s Reno lawyer, Tammy Riggs, said that she waived an arraignment appearance in Reno Municipal Court, so a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.
The downtown arch proclaiming Reno the “Biggest Little City in the World” sustained only minor damage.
The crash happened a day after Vandenbroucke was arrested for alleged possession of ecstasy at the Burning Man counterculture festival in the Black Rock Desert, north of Reno. She is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 26 on the felony drug charge in Pershing County Justice court in Lovelock. That charge, for a first offender, in punishable by up to four years probation.
