This sounds like one of those stupid criminal stories.

The guys were at least stupid, if not criminals.

Who has an art collection which in 2002 was appraised at $27.5M, that you think is worth over $80M, insured for…$72,000?? You’ve had years to think about insuring it properly.

    Dumb dumb dumb.

I once handled a home owners theft claim where one item on the list was: 14 golf tees, $5.00 each = $70.00. (BTW the insured handed a 28 page list to the arrving officers for a theft that he just discovered)

The howmewoner was eventully arrested for filing a false police report.

These men are most definitely stupid, however, I believe that the art was stolen. If the claim is settled they’re only going to get $72,000 so why not sell the art for millions?? Seems to me they were naive enough to belive that noone would ever steal the art so they failed to insure it properly. Seems to me like a botched investigation.
