A 58-year-old Helena, Mont., woman has pleaded guilty to stealing federal and insurance payments that should have gone to her mentally disabled son.
Mary Lynn Mills entered her plea before U.S. District Judge Charles Lovell. She was released with conditions pending her June 4 sentencing.
Prosecutors say Mills’ son, identified as J.H., was receiving Supplemental Security Income payments as well as disability insurance benefits. Mills was appointed to help him manage his money.
Court records say between Nov. 3, 2006 and May 2, 2008, Mills was paid $9,165 in benefits.
J.H.’s father told investigators that his son had lived with him since 2006 and they hadn’t received any more than $140 from Mills.
