While the quest to find safety procedures and measures to prevent these kinds of things, it boils down to human stupidity and irresponsibility. There were plenty of procedures in place. The railroad can’t baby sit its employees 24 x 7. Where do engineers and conductors get off playing with cell phones or blackberries when they’re supposed to be working? This is an inherent flaw in some human beings. There needs to be some type of monitoring device that will intercept texting messages and alert management of where it is originating from, and who is using it. Then, they can stop the train, drag the moron out side, and beat him to death with a bat. That will solve the problem. Seems that’s what it takes to get some people’s attention.
