Boise officials are considering banning all-terrain-vehicles from all city streets.
City officials say they have prepared an ordinance as a precaution in hopes of preventing serious and possibly fatal traffic issues involving the vehicles. A lawyer for the city concedes ATV use on city streets is not a major problem right now.
But Terry Derden, an attorney for the city’s public safety division, says ATVs on roads with heavy, regular traffic could be dangerous to their drivers and other motorists.
The proposed ordinance also makes a few exceptions, for agricultural and livestock purposes as well as snow removal.
Elected city leaders are expected to debate the merits of the ordinance at a Jan. 27 city council meeting.
