Windsor, Colo. Spends $2 Million to Repair Tornado Damage

December 15, 2008

Windsor town officials say they spent about $2 million to repair the Town Hall, an arts center and a swimming pool building after a May 22, 2008, tornado that killed one person.

Town Manager Kelly Arnold said the costs were covered by insurance.

The work was done through emergency no-bid contracts because it had to be done quickly. Officials say any further work beyond immediate repairs will be sent out to bid.

The repair expenses included $1.3 million for the Town Hall, $580,000 for the Arts and Heritage Center and $120,000 for a building at Chimney Park Pool.

The tornado destroyed nearly 80 homes and damaged about 770 others.
