I know the families are going to sue, I just wonder who will get the bill for this one.

The jet must have had a malfunction. Thus negligence or even strict liability or products liability issues arise. To sue the manufacturer might present problems in creating future “armaments” for our defense. Suing the US Marines for improper Quality Assurance, will probably use the same defense rationale as the manufacturer regarding the need for military weapons. Since it was not a private aircraft or airliner, could there be thornier arguments here? Either way, it would seem imcomprehensible that damages would not be forthcoming to the afflicted families. Also, since civilization has surrounded Miramar (I was stationed there in the 60’s), wouldn’t it make sense to relocate it out into the desert? I recalled an F-8 Crusader crashing into the 1st large hanger; and another F-8C crashing as it approached the runway just on the other side of 395, in the canyon. I also understand that this jet just missed a high school. What if it had crashed into a La Jolla super rich neighborhood. These folks can afford top-notch legal help plus it is likely they would have access to the white house. The current and future residential growth in that area must be taken into consideration.
