Great article Laurie. One thing I would add is the one step before even asking the questions in the article. That is to buy insurance. How many of these people have no insurance to even turn to. I heard on the news last night that a majority of the folks in the mobile homes that burned didn’t have any insurance. Folks, we live in a powder keg here in CA, time to pull your heads out of the sand and act responsibly. For those of you who don’t have insurance now, I would find your nearest independent agent and buy some right away. And for all of you others who have purchased homeowner’s insurance, take a look at your coverage limits. If you are insuring your home for anything under $200 sq ft in CA, you are underinsured. Don’t let some agent tell you that the ERC endorsement will suffice. It will not.

Some company’s have this in their wording. State Farm does as to Travelers. So, be sure and let people know that their deductible might apply even if they have no damage.

From one that has 34 years in the insurance business I found your article to be well written and very easy to understand. Thank-you. Perhaps some of the local news papers should pick it up and publish it as well.
    Thanks again,
