On one hand they advocate annual mileage as the second most heavily weighted factor influencing auto insurance rates. On the other they’re reluctant to support the sharing of actual miles driven.

Okay, you measure the miles driven. But who’s driving those miles? Is it little Johnny who just turned 16, his 18 year old brother, or his 40 something Mom or Dad?
Can’t see the Insurance Companies jumping on this one!

Considering most people “fudge” on their mileage now when buying auto insurance, I highly doubt many people would go for this. I can also see this backfiring on the companies as well. Say they offer this and then it comes out and the companies are actually charging more for the insurance since the actual mileage is now higher than the insured use to estimate. Pretty soon you will have Harvey and his ilk saying the insurance companies are screwing over the consumers with the new PAYD plan. I am getting really tired of these politicians using the IC job in CA as a stepping stone to the Governorship. So much pandering and sound bites by both Dem and Rep commissioners over the last 12 years.

“I am thrilled to pave the way…”
    “As a strong advocate…
“I am especially pleased to encourage…”

Me, me, me. You can’t escape it. They’re everywhere. Clown politicians blowing their own horn as heros of the masses. I read it here than have to go home and gag through it during the political conventions on TV. When will these jokers realize that we aren’t stupid and can see through their phony proposals as nothing more than self serving BS. By the way, if you get a chance to see Poizner at a speech it’s a real treat. I’ve been to two where talks little about insurance and dwells more on how he was one of a handful in a class that got a black belt in martial arts. At least now I know that our rough and tumble commissioner is better qualified at breaking a board with his swollen head. Unfortunately, breaking boards with his head may not come across as being “environmentally green”

Concur with comments, Not only is the program a fatuous nothing, but also its administration will be impossible unless
    they adopt Progressive’s mile meters.
Then the cost of the program will increase
rates and not offer a decrease
The commish is far from green but rather red faced thru his blatant misuse of the “going green” syndrome infesting our political landscape

Does voodoo economicas ring a bell? Since no one factor is allowed to influence rates more than a certain percentage I’m not sure the cost of implementing some goofy collection system will be economically feasible. How much is someone going to pay/save over/below what they already are……let’s see, Mr Poizner you estimated 11,612 on your wife’s vehicle; she only did 10,720 on her trips to Nordstroms for the year. Do you want a check or a credit on your new estimated policy for next year? $47.82 Cr?

What this will do is just increase the premium for consumers by getting a more accurate annual mileage. Which means more money in my pocket. We all know people under estimate their annual mileage because they know their premium is based on it.
Basically we are doing this right now with public records, smog checks, etc.

Not only will it raise insurance premiums for mileage increase, it will increase cost for insurance companies sending people to collections. “Okay so you underestimated your annual mileage by 10,000 miles. Please send us a check for $250 for the additional miles for the last 6 months.” Not everyone will pay it. They’ll go to another carrier while the first carrier sends them to collections. Plus it just opens up another door for fraud. “Let’s disconnect our odometer cable for 3 months.” I have to admit the CA insurance commish is an idiot! The sad thing is people are eating it up. Bigger government, more hand outs, more taxes, we’re in for a treat….well our kids or grandkids are. I’d rather be part of Canada then Mexico when we belly up.

There is NO SUCH THING! The founder of the weather channel and 25,000 scientists met recently in Tempe, Arizona to discuss this FARCE by Al Gore on the American people. Everyone is so gullible. The weather patterns do NOT support ANY of Al Gore’s claims. I have much more confidence in scientists than some dumb a_s politician…

WAKE UP CA. people. You are biting on this crap more than any other state.

I agree- Global Warming is the biggest hoax to come down the pike for some time!!
Wake up suckers! But regards the checking of the odometer… just wondering who has to go out to the insured’s car or pass on the milage numbers to the carrier? Another non-compensated duty for the already burdoned agents. Yippee!
