I for one am sick and tired of hearing about the wildfires in CA. These are annual events with some years being worse than others. Billions of dollars are spent on trying to extinguish them with little success. Most of the time getting the fires “under control” simply mean they’ve burned themselves out to the point where there’s little remaining damage they can do. They should simply let them burn themselves out. Sooner or later there won’t be anything to catch fire. Fighting wildfires is a losing battle that sucks resources away from other priorities.

You may not feel that way Eli if one of those fires was headed towards your house and the fireman just let it burn.

California politicians waste billions of dollars each year. Why should they be able to acquire any additional money (i.e.- policy surcharges) until they spend what they have correctly. If you believe that the surcharge they collect will be spent on Firefighting, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you.

Additionally, those who decide to live in high fire danger areas should have to pay extra for it. Also, if you don’t let an area burn occasionally, you’re just setting up a potential mega fire because it’s going to burn sometime. The longer it goes un-burnt the more fuel (i.e. – decaying trees and plants) build up.

If you want to start talking about short fall for the Califonia budget, illeagal aliens account for 10 Billion in their medical costs we have to subsidize. That doesn’t even start to account for the education system and prisons they fill.

CA Spark: It would be interesting to know how many homes have been destroyed versus how much has been spent trying to control/extinguish these fires. My guess it’s a comparatively small amount. My point is, when an area is prone to wildfires EVERY YEAR, maybe people should re-think where they build. I realize some people just love where they live but it’s their risk to take. It’s akin to the boneheads who love to live near rivers and lakes that flood with some regularity. They would never consider moving. That’s fine, but don’t expect other taxpayers to foot the bill.
