Sounds like a CAT-tastrophe waiting to happen.

It mentions a deductible in the first sentence but there is nothing else about it in the article.

Great! I think that its a great idea and we should have something like that added to our CA Auto polices since we/here in CA love pets and many of us travel with our pets all the time.

Put the cats in dogs in the trunk of your vehicle or the bed of your pick up on a chain. That way if they jump out you can let them run along behind your vehicle until the next time you stop for gas. This also prevents glass claims from following vehicles. A cat or dog riding in the front of the vehicle can cause asthma or other allergic reactions such as sneezing.

What’s wrong with transporting a pet? Not a lot of veterinarians make house calls, so you have to get your animal there some how.

Plus, not all dog parks are within walking distance from a person’s home. Again, have to transport the dog by some means.

I think the animal should be secured within the vehicle in some fashion, so it can’t get tangled in the driver’s feet or distract the driver. But I think there’s nothing wrong with putting my cat in her crate and buckling the crate into the back seat if I need to take her somewhere.

Having animals loose in the bed of a pick up is another issue entirely. Having any unsecured cargo in the bed of one’s truck is careless and foolish whether it’s a dog, tools, trash cans or kids.

Progressive has had pet coverage as an automatic no-added-cost part of collision coverage in most states for quite awhile now.

Is there coverage for the pet while UNDER the vehicle or just IN it?

It’s just another gimick which will cause another multimillion dollar ad campaign. If these companies would put their resources toward reducing premiums it would benefit us all a lot more.

$600, what a laugh!! Recently a man rearended another vehicle. His 45 pound dog hit the windshield. The dog was hospitalized with head trauma and underwent surgeries. Total bill $4,000. He was going 30MPH.

    $600.00 sounds about right.
$300.00 for the doctor. Over $300.00 and you take Fido or Fifi to the pound for the big shot and incineration. It is not a person its a dog or cat. With the left over $300.00 after the vet is paid you have plenty to pay for the big shot, incineration, and adoption fees for Fido or Fifi’s replacement. Plus you do something good for the enviroment.
