JJ, what kind of BS is that? Home buyers purchased more house they they can afford and chose variable or interest/only loans during a time when fixed rates were at some of the lowest levels in recent history. Ah, but a fixed rate loan at a decent rate level would not have allowed them to buy the house of their dreams.
While one can be sympathetic with the current national epidemic of mortgage foreclosures, what does such activity of a non-insurance related activity of USAA have to do with rate adequacy issues with its HO insurance program?
As a long time USAA member (over 40 years) I deplore the commentarys below suggestion USAA is anything but supurb as an insuror dedicated to serving the membership. And Mr. Greenlineing Guy is setting up a straw man to knock down for his own presumably political objectives by ssuggesting USAA nears any responsibilty to preserve the homes of military members or their family memebers if the ownership is not finanacially viable – and I agree thier rate application has zero to dowith thier banking ops
If anyone deserves consideration in this mess it would be the military members fighting in foreign countries. That being said, a premium adjustment of $7/$100 probably will not break anyones bank and has nothing to do with foreclosures. Also, why shouldn’t USAA come under the microscope of consumer groups the way the rest of the industry has?
USAA member here for 5 yrs. just amazing how quickly fingers are pointed. lets remember also responsibility lies in the member hands also. never had issues with USAA. excellent custumor service. and they will work with you if you are having problems paying back loans/ credit cards or obtaining loans. just dont sit there and not do anything. there are so many resources out there. trust me
