Ironically, one of the biggest issues people have during an accident is finding a good honest body shop.

This bill does nothing more than prohibit insurance companies from informing their customers of severl inportant rights.

That they may be required to pay additional money out of pocket if they have their vehicles repaired by shops that charge more than a reasonable amount for a repair.

Locations where the vehicles may be taken so that the customer is guaranteed that they will not have to make an out of pocket payment to have their vehicles repaired.

What shops meet the insurance company’s qualifications for customer satisfaction and timely repair and whether the repairs are guaranteed, and to what extent.

Any reputable insurance company does not care where you fix your car.
If you pick some shady mechanic that wants to try and over-charge, we won’t pay for it.

Forcing the insured to use any shop is inappropriate, but consumers need to be aware that they take the responsibility of dealing with the shop directly if there are problems and the insured choose the shop themselves.

After being directed away from my chosen shop (too long for adjuster to see, won’t guarantee the repairs, you will have to pay extra, etc.), I took my car to the insurance companies choice. It was only 1 year old. The insurance company had the direct repair shop use imitation parts without my knowledge, repaired parts that should have been replaced, and the paint didn’t match. After taking my car back 3 times with no satisfaction, I decided to take it to my chosen shop. It ended up costing my insurance company $6,074.45 for a re-repair of the damage that their recomended shop did. There were charges from the insurance shop that wasn’t performed along with unsafe repairs. I have checked several times after and the shop is still a recommended repairer for the insurance company. So people, vote yes on this important bill.

I am soooooooooooooo glad I don’t live in California any more – win or lose, the industry will never conceed control of repairs to the public – unfettered ‘choice’ of shop will just mean longer dwell time for autos under repair and higher costs all around

EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW IF AN INSURANCE COMPANY SUPPORTS AN ISSUE IT IS ALWAYS FOR THEIR BEST INTEREST – NOT THE CONSUMERS. I CHOSE MY INSURANCE CARRIER AND I WILL CHOOSE MY COLLISION REPAIR SHOP. A “YES” VOTE ON THIS BILL ASSURES THIS. I URGE EVERYONE TO CONTACT ANY BODY SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS. INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE BEEN MAKING RECORD PROFITS FOR SEVERAL YEARS BY STEERING INSURED’S, PRICE FIXING, PAINT CAPPING, AND FLAT REFUSING TO PAY FOR QUALITY REPAIRS. PLEASE SUPPORT SB 1167.

You must work for an insurance company.

As do most people on this board.

To continue the conversation, any bill that limits the conversations I can have with people is bad for everyone involved. If I have a great relationship with my insurer I should be able to talk to them about where I get my vehicle repaired.

Currently, insureds are able to take their vehicle to any repair shop of their choosing. It isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Besides, it was a politician that advanced the bill & that can’t be good for anyone.

It’s too bad people like Kathy make the assumption that all insurance companies want to do is shaft customers. The public in California is so misinformed on insurance issues. The anti-insurance company activists have polluted the atmosphere more than LA cars. Who do you work for Kathy? Who does your company shaft?

Kathy, sounds like your insurance company took care of all of the expenses you incurred even if it cost more and yet, you still whine about it. Seems like there is more to this than you let on.
