We tried out these camera first on a stretch of the 101 freeway through Scottsdale (a downhill stretch) – amazing the tickets written and paid ! To be fair, the speed tripping the camera was 76 mph and the posted in town f/w speed is 65 – the nitwit record is currently held by a young pup clocked at 121 mph.

In the other side, some 576 tickets were just dismissed due to a glitch in the system where tickets were being issued to non-speeding drivers – the errors were self-reported by the Agency.

Our govenor, Jan the Man (as I call her) has done much good work for Arizona but it is also worth remebering we have had some doozie losers in the office too – so all things are relative

Highways in flat, wide open AZ, should have the highest speed limits in the country. This is nothing more than a revenue generator.

And what’s wrong with the photo radar being a revenue generator? If you don’t want to contribute, then DON’T SPEED. This is so easy to figure out that even a caveman could come to the same conclusion!

    Calif Ex Pat,
Just curious, if you get cited by one of these cameras, is it like a majority of areas with redlight cameras were you only get a ticket but no actual License/Insurance points? Also, do you have any info on whether or not these cameras have reduced the number of people speeding excessively (meaning 11+ over limit), or any reductions/increases in fatal accidents caused by excessive speeds?

I’m personally in favor of these systems, as most have a certain amount of leeway built in (as previously noted by Calif Ex) and a working appeals process that can be followed if you do not think the ticket is correct. Where I live, the intersections where red-light cameras have been installed have seen a reduction in the number of accidents?

And while it may be a revenue booster for the state, at least they are getting it honestly by ticketing violators of traffic law vs quietly adding fees to insurance/auto registration.

I have an idea. After puting cameras on the Hwy to catch offenders how about putting cameras in peoples houses & businesses to catch any unlawful acts.

No wonder Napolitano was chosen to be head of National Security. She was so effective at spying on motorists that Obama chose her to spy on everyone.
