“IF” I were taller I could be in the NBA. This proclamation about the damage being far worse “IF” is ludicrous. Just goes to show you there are some people out there who have no purpose in life but to make these types of stupid observations.

Wow! What an insightful observation by the pros at RMS … and you wonder why risk managers have trouble sleeping at night, eg. larger potential for greater loss (huh?) and enormous BI exposure. Keep up the great work!

When you have a fire in a hotel that services numerous people daily you utilize predictive modeling which allows the insurer and the hotel to identify areas of concern and to examine every potential that exists. That’s simply responsible. They were lucky this time…they need to be prepared and with our litigious society and that very public history do you think the casino could survive a subsequent fire that caused injuries? I assure you, they could not.

I disagree totally with your view. Had the fire been in a different area of the hotel like a guest room, the sprinkler system would have put out or controlled the fire. You would be writing about the terrible water damage to the guest room and the money lost by not being able to rent that room for a week.
