Isn’t 31 a little old to be trying out for the cops? Sounds like she failed the final exam. If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch Jennifer.

Key word: “she.” Further comment would be superfluous.

She failed her final in a controlled environment, what would she expect if she faced the same situation out on the street? Sounds like the police dept saved some serious work comp payments. What a bunch of dufuses (her AND her attorney).

Believe cadets sign a waiver for this sort of thing – at worst she has and has already made a w/comp claim as I believe cadets receive a small stipend and she would be considered a provisional or probationary City employee. Lastly, what on earth was she thinking by applying in the first place? – this is Oakland ! (think Raider fans),not Mayberry.

I guess that she only wants to patrol areas with equally-sized female criminals. Fine line between gender-discrimination and equal-opportunity. If they didn’t give her the hand-to-hand combat test, then she would be suing for gender discrimination. In an effort to be open-minded, i certainly hope that the instructors were not especially rough on her to make their point that females shouldn’t be cops. If they were gentler on the male cadets, then there might be some legitimacy to a claim fopr disparate treatment. By the way…(for the previous commenter) I think that this occurred in Oakland, Michigan, not Calif.

Al, are you in the insurance industry. If so, obviously not in claims. What is with this comment, “Key word: “she.” Further comment would be superfluous.” Yes I am female and no I would not become a police officer. She should have known her final exam would be a difficult one and been prepared. But, I do think your comment walked a fine line. You may want to keep comments like that to yourself in the presence of clients, employees and attorneys and your wife or daughter.

“Walked a fine line”? I think it was clear what line I was proudly stomping on.

My wife and daughter would not only not be surprised at my statement, but would agree that dames don’t belone in any uniforms except nurses’ and crossing guards.

How could she have prepared for being punched in the head?

Females are twice as quick to unholster their weapons as male officers. Why? Because they’re afraid of being pummuled by someone twice their size.

I am especially enamored of the relaxation of qualifications designed to accomodate girls on the police force or ladder company. It makes me feel a lot safer knowing that they don’t have to lift as much or climb and run as fast as the men. My favorit is that they don’t have to be able to throw a grenade far enough to keep it from killing them in order to pass the new Army requirements.

One last comment Al. The next time you become pregnant and born a child you might change your mind about who is the weaker sex.
