Do you suppose California Law enforcement
relishes more unenforceable laws? What percentage can they enforce now? Just more feel good knee jerk liberal crap.

Arnie says “I share a genuine concern for the safety and well being of young
passengers traveling in motor vehicles with their parents. Ultimately, it has to be the parents who are responsible for their children’s safety,” Schwarzenegger wrote in vetoing the measure.

Then why pass the “no smoking bill”? Shouldn’t parents be responsible for thier childrens “health” issues as well?

What is this world coming to…

It’s okay to let a kid sit in a vehicle going 60 miles an hour when it has been proven that height and weight factors into the safety and effectiveness of seat belts in motor vehicles?

Can someone explain the “weight” of these two proposals and why one is more important than the other?

I agree, perplexed. I don’t get the Gov’s rationale in these two bills.
At least you know he must not be in bed with the tobacco lobby.

The difference between the smoking and the booster seat is visability of the danger.

A parent that smokes in their car with their kids in the car is creating long term health problems that we have to pay for as the child becomes an adult. I know this, because my parents smoked when I was a child. I have never smoked and my lungs look like an ex-smoker. Smokers don’t always realize how very bad second hand smoke is. Responsible, caring parents don’t always realize the harm they are doing their children, because it is not visible with out medical scans.

Most parents I know, including myself, already intend on having their children in booster seats until they can sit in the car comfortably with the belt in a safe position on their bodies. Age has nothing to do with it, height and weight are the only true factors. Responsible parents don’t need a law to see that their 7 or 8 year old is just not big enough to sit in the car with out a seat belt.
