Edward B. Rust, the president and chief executive officer of the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, died here today. He was 66 years old.
For several years, Mr. Rust, who died at St. Joseph\’s Hospital, had been treated for aplastic anemia, a blood and bone marrow disorder.
Mr. Rust was a former president of the United States Chamber of Commerce.
He joined State Farm in 1941. He became president of the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in 1958, said Ron Arnold, a State Farm spokesman. Mr. Rust was named board chairman in 1983 and served as president and chief executive officer of the parent company and its seven affiliates, which write property-casualty and life insurance coverage.
As president of the United States Chamber of Commerce from 1973-74, Mr. Rust led business delegations to the Soviet Union and the Middle East. In the Nixon Administration he was a member of advisory councils on insurance and minority enterprise.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet, two daughters and a son.
Funeral services are to be held Wednesday in Bloomington.
