Colorado Casualty, a member of Liberty Mutual Group, is helping its 14,000 homeowner insurance policyholders and homeowners throughout the West and Southwestern states protect their families and homes during wildfire season.
A six-page Disaster Planning Guide is available to consumers on the Colorado Casualty Consumer website at www.coloradocasualty-ins.com. The guide is designed to help homeowners develop an action plan for possible evacuation, details what necessities should go into an emergency kit, and explains the importance of undertaking a household inventory among other important safety tips.
“We want homeowners to be as ready as they can be to get out of harm’s way and that starts with careful planning well in advance of a wildfire or other natural disaster,” said Colorado Casualty President and CEO Don Frette.
To remind policyholders that disaster planning is key for a safe recovery, Colorado Casualty independent agents will be distributing wallet and key cards to policyholders that include the company’s toll-free phone number for reporting a loss.
The National Interagency Fire Center reports that fire potential from June through September of this year could be higher than normal in the Southwest and portions of the Rocky Mountains, due in part, to a dry winter and spring. Through this June, over 59,000 reported wildfires have burned 3.8 million acres nationally, or a million more acres than for the same time period in 2005.
