This may not be a bad idea given the abuse of mileage assignments on insurance policies, but I don\’t think it should be the insurance agent to do so. Perhaps have certififying service stations and other similar drive though operations to certify mileage each year on an insured\’s vehicle. They would electronically remit this information which would be direct to the insurance company. Eventually cars would be equiped with a devise that automatically reads mileage via a wireless provider. The only agents or brokers who would not like the mileage idea are those who sell on price alone and want to cheat the system.

Talk about more bureacratic red tape to go thru. This will turn out the same as when about 10 years ago CA made it mandatory to get photos of all cars getting insurance. That was a joke. If the insurance companies are willing to take an insureds word for annual miles driven, why should the DOI care? Quackamendi needs to leave office now before he can destroy the insurance marketplace in CA.

I agree that Quackamendi should leave office, however he is running for Lt. Gov. after he has already screwed up the insurance marketplace here. We need to defeat him and send him back to farming!! Get the word out!!

Interesting….companies now all want everything done on line and are pushing for \”virtual agents\” to enable a seamless, quick process. They never mentioned that they didn\’t trust car mileage input. So who personally checks the odometer if an agent isn\’t involved? And every six months? And when you add a car? And when you add a driver, etc.,etc.,etc? Maybe CDI can hire mileage auditors to go around and invade Californians\’ privacy by lurking around parking lots and home garages to make spot checks.

My best guess are those who are attacking Garamendi have not been in this business long enough. For those of who were around during Garamendi\’s first term, we know the guy was a stinking liberal who was clueless that the free enterprise system does a better job than any regulator. Well I got to give this guy an A+ for learning, thanks to the voters who booted him out of office. This time around, he understand that an insurance company has to make a profit in order to stay in business. He has not interfeared with insurance company rate increases and he has not acted as the dictator he was the very time around, so much he scared the hell out of companies to leave California. Companies are thriving in the California Marketplace, thus I refuse to blame Garamendi because his core politics are different than mine. Nevertheless, anytime a liberal learns is a good thing and instead of attacking him, we should praise him and welcome him into reality. By the way, this mileage thing is a small thing relative to the Macro-economics of insurance. I think drivers who do drive more should pay more, but I think there must be a better system in place than leaving it to the insurance brokers. While most brokers are fine people, some will be non-truthful about the mileage because there lack of knowledge of the products they sell forces them to sell on price alone.

I, for one, was around for Quackamendi\’s first term. Based on your assessment, I would say that you have been in the business a little too long and have started losing your short term memory. Wasn\’t it just 2 years ago he was trying to take over State Fund with bogus financials saying they were underreserved. And then the next day in a separate press release claim they are overcharging and need to lead the way in price cutting? Then, when it became apparant that he did \”cook the books\” on the State Fund audit, he went silent. What about his Homeowner\’s bill of rights, what about his solution to changing the rating methodology around so his constituents in urban areas get a price break while the rest of the state subsidizes them? Even his own department study said it was not cost based justified. Cal Broker, that\’s just a few things in the last 2 years. Please, if you are going to schlep for the guy, at least be honest about it. And yes, I am a die hard conservative, but I also thought Chuck Quackenbush was a complete joke in office as well. I don\’t care if the green party wins the IC job, as long as they don\’t let the power go to their head like Quakamendi did and still does.

As mentioned, I give Garamendi an A+ for learning, nethertheless there is no questions, he is still going to give stab at some liberal solutions here and there. At least this time around, he has not hijaced the industry. I must give credit where credit is due and I give him credit for learning from his previous stupidity. Like any liberal child who thinks a strong arm aproach will work better than the free enterprise, we all know he is capable of doing more learning. He will make mistake and will learn, unlike any San Francisco liberal in their 60s who keeps taking stab at the same failed policies only to realize they are still living in their rent controlled apartment and have made nothing of themselves all their lives.
